Assistance Program |
The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a confidential, professional
assessment and referral program designed to help you and your family
resolve personal problems. This program is entirely company-paid.
Valassis has contracted with Ceridian LifeWorks, an independent company,
to provide the EAP. The EAP program relies on professionals nationwide
to help associates with a broad range of personal issues. The EAP staff
includes licensed clinical social workers, licensed marriage and family
counselors, certified alcohol and drug counselors, financial counselors,
and elder care and child care counselors.
Eligibility
You and your family members are eligible to use the EAP if you are a
part- or full-time associate scheduled to work at least 20 hours per
week.
Enrollment
You are automatically enrolled in the program when you become eligible.
How the Employee Assistance Program Works
You may contact the EAP to receive assistance for any personal or work-related
problems facing you or a family member. For example, you may seek help
with problems relating to marital or family issues, alcohol and drug
abuse, stress or other emotional problems, such as:
- Balancing work and family
- Depression
- Financial and credit problems
- Legal issues
- Child care
- Elder care
- Federal taxpayer problems
You may call the EAP's toll-free number 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Your call with the EAP will be strictly confidential, as provided by
state and federal law. You and your eligible family members are entitled
to up to five sessions per incident in a six-month period for all available
EAP services, fully paid by Valassis.
You will talk with a skilled professional who may provide short-term
assistance over the telephone or refer you or your family member to
a professional in an EAP office for further assessment. Spanish-speaking
staff are available.
Based on the EAP staff’s assessment of your needs, you may be
referred to other resources in your area for additional counseling.
If you elect to use those resources, you will pay any costs associated
with the services beyond the 1-5 short-term counseling sessions paid
for by Valassis as part of the EAP. For additional counseling, you should
check whether your medical coverage (with Valassis or from any other
source) will pay for any medically necessary care you might receive.
You may also be referred to receive legal consultation beyond the scope
of the EAP. This associate-pay-all legal program may provide consultation
in many areas, including family law, consumer issues, landlord-tenant
disputes, personal injury, contracts and criminal matters.
EAP services do not provide:
- Inpatient or outpatient treatment for any medically treated illness
- Prescription drugs
- Treatment or services for mental retardation or autism
- Counseling services beyond the number of sessions covered
- Services by counselors who are not EAP providers
- Counseling required by law or a court, or paid for by Workers’
Compensation
- Formal psychological evaluations and fitness-for-duty opinions
If you elect to receive care based on an EAP referral, an EAP staff
member will work closely with you and other treatment providers to establish
a treatment program that meets your needs.
Child and Elder Care
The EAP offers personalized support for associates who need help locating
appropriate services to care for children and elder family members.
First, the EAP helps you to assess your situation, define your needs
and identify options. Then, the EAP researches and links you with available
providers and programs in your area that meet your needs. The EAP does
the legwork and helps you understand your options. You decide which
of the available options is right for you.
