If You Become Pregnant
Here's what you need to do:
If You Become a Parent
Here's what you need to do:
-
Consider a leave of absence. If you are eligible
under the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA), you may be
able to take job-protected leave for up to 12 weeks (state laws
may vary and provide additional leave) to care for a child after
birth, adoption or placement for adoption or foster care.
-
Enroll your child(ren) for benefits. You may
enroll your child(ren) for:
Be sure to enroll your child within 31 days of the birth, adoption
or placement for adoption. Otherwise, you will have to wait until
the next open enrollment period.
- Review your designated beneficiaries. You may change
your beneficiaries for:
To designate (add) or change a beneficiary, sign onto www.valassisbenefits.com
and choose the "Enroll or Make Changes" option in the upper
right hand corner. You are automatically the beneficiary for any life
insurance you elect for your spouse and children. You may also complete
a life
insurance beneficiary designation form or one for the retirement
plan or contact the Associate Resource Center or your HR Representative.
To designate or change a beneficiary for the Retirement Savings Plan,
complete the beneficiary designation form and submit it to your HR
Representative.
- Consider changing Retirement Savings Plan contributions.
You may change your contribution amount or begin contributing to the
Retirement Savings Plan.
- Arrange for childcare. Your Employee Assistance
Program can provide you with assistance in locating childcare services.
- Consider a Dependent Care Spending Account. (If
you set up this account, Valassis will match your contributions, dollar-for-dollar,
up to the first $600, for a total annual contribution of $5,000 if
you are single and file as head of household or married and file jointly;
$2,500 if you are married and file separately). You must be hired
by 10/1 to be eligible for the next plan year.
- Consider revising or drafting a will.
- Consider designating guardians for your child(ren).
- Consider adjusting your voluntary life insurance coverage
(evidence of insurability is required to increase your coverage more
than one level).
